Plum Valley BowlingHard work is always rewarded.

That’s what Plum Valley Elementary School students learned when they went on a fun field trip November 22nd for scoring highest in the county during state testing last spring.

“Everyone did such a great job and I’m very proud of each of you,” Superintendent/Principal Charles Allen told the students during an award ceremony on November 8th.

Allen handed out bronze, silver and gold Achievement Awards at the Special Assembly. He congratulated each student for their hard work during the California Standardized Testing and Reporting Program. He told the students, parents and teachers he was very proud of everyone.  The students were rewarded with a trip to Lariat Bowl in Red Bluff.  “At Plum Valley School, we’re a team,” Allen said, “and because we all work together, this reward trip is for everyone, even those who weren’t here when we took the test.”

The school’s Booster Club sponsored the bowling trip, which included pizza and drinks. The school provided a cake to top off the fun. School staff and parents joined the students in two games of bowling, with Mr. Allen joining on the friendly competition and trying hard to keep up with students’ scores.  The students were also given a special look behind the scenes of the bowling alley. Ed McFadyen, Facility Manager, took the students behind the lanes to see how the machines collected the balls and pins and then reset them. He also demonstrated the floor machine which helps keeps the lanes in top condition for bowling.

After bowling, the students headed to California Walnut Company in Los Molinos. They toured the facility and learned how various walnuts are graded, cleaned and packed for shipping. They were shown how various equipment works in the process. Each student was given a bag filled with gifts to take home.

“Staff and students had an excellent time," Allen said. "Hard work should be rewarded and students experience that learning can be fun.”
